{"id":1796,"date":"2026-02-04T14:55:51","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T14:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vanessa-bek.de\/do-companies-really-need-more-knowledge-management-or-rather-emotion-management\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T14:55:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T14:55:51","slug":"do-companies-really-need-more-knowledge-management-or-rather-emotion-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vanessa-bek.de\/en\/do-companies-really-need-more-knowledge-management-or-rather-emotion-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Do companies really need more knowledge management or rather &#8220;emotion management&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Do companies really need more knowledge management or rather &#8220;emotion management&#8221;?<\/span><\/h1>\n<p id=\"ember1039\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">I am a convinced advocate of <strong>knowledge management<\/strong> in companies as the basis for functioning project, process and change management.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1040\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Without clean knowledge structures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>errors are repeated<\/li>\n<li>changes fail<\/li>\n<li>learning remains accidental instead of effective<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And yet knowledge management is still treated as a &#8220;nice to have&#8221; in many organizations. In most cases, there is a lack of time and resources and genuine top-down support from management levels. <\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1043\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\"><strong>An impulse from outside that made me think further.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1044\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The episode of <strong>Hotel Matze<\/strong> with <strong>Dr. Giulia Enders <\/strong>(<em>&#8220;What does your body want to tell you?&#8221;)<\/em> inspired me to think further.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1045\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">A central idea from the podcast: The body reacts and sends signals <strong>long before<\/strong> we cognitively classify them. Those who ignore them pay the price later, and that&#8217;s exactly what I observe in organizations. <\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1046\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__heading-3\">Companies manage knowledge, but emotions are neglected.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">What emotions have to do with leadership and learning<\/span><\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember1047\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">In many companies, there is excellent analysis, planning and structuring, but hardly any emotion. Emotions are still considered unprofessional, (too) private or difficult to control. Yet they have long been controlling decisions, behavior and collaboration.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">What must not be felt is shown differently:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uncertainty becomes resistance<\/li>\n<li>Fear of control<\/li>\n<li>Excessive demands lead to withdrawal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1050\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Not because people are difficult, but because their system is in survival mode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\"><strong>Perhaps we don&#8217;t need either-or, but a new order.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Emotion management as the basis of modern leadership<\/span><\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember1051\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">I do not believe that knowledge management is outdated, but perhaps it is <strong>not the first step<\/strong>. Because without emotional security, knowledge remains ineffective and without contact to one&#8217;s own experience, learning remains abstract. <\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1052\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">What if companies asked themselves more often?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How safe do people really feel?<\/li>\n<li>What emotions shape decisions, especially the unspoken ones?<\/li>\n<li>What is known but not lived?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember1054\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\"><strong>Mature leadership <\/strong>is (also) demonstrated by courageously addressing feelings.
